Instagram is becoming adept at finding popular features in other social networks and appropriating them for itself. The latest new feature, Instagram Collections, gives you the Pinterest-esque ability to save Instagram posts into personal collections.
You already had the ability to save posts in Instagram starting last year. Collections is a way to organize those saves–either existing ones, or new posts you find and/or create.
Like saved posts, your Instagram Collections are private, so your followers won’t be able to see them. It’s more of a cataloging tool, but it may eventually help users create a public-facing, curated set of photos if Instagram chooses to make the feature public.
Instagram Collections is available with the latest update to the app (10.16) on iOS and Android devices.
Here, according to Instagram, is how to start using the feature:
- Go to your profile and tap
- Tap in the top-right corner
- Enter a name then tap Next
- Tap any saved posts you’d like to add to your collection, then tap Done
You can also create a new collection as you save posts:
- Below a post you’d like to include in your collection, tap and hold
- Enter a name then tap Done
To see the collections you’ve created, go to your profile and tap , then tap Collections at the top.

Many photographers have bemoaned Instagram’s inability to tell a coherent visual story.
