PMA Photo Show Will Have Strange Bedfellow in 2012: Porn Convention

That scantily clad “booth babe” you see walking the halls of the Sands convention center during PMA 2012 in Las Vegas next January may not be a presenter for the photo show at all. She may be a porn star.

PMA, which recently announced it will move its annual photo trade event this year to 2012 alongside the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), will be sharing the Sands Expo and Convention Center with the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo (AEE), the largest pornography industry trade show in the United States. The two shows will overlap in the Sands for two days but will be held on different floors of the convention center. (PMA is scheduled to take place January 10-13, 2012)

“I don’t think there’s going to be much crossover,” said Gary Pageau, a spokesperson for PMA. “The Sands is enormous and we’re going to be on one end of the building and they’re going to be on the other.”

Pageau added that badge-holders at the photo show, which has been rebranded as PMA@CES, will be allowed to use the CES shuttle buses but AEE attendees will not. He also didn’t think PMA attendees will be put off by the fact that the two shows are sharing the same convention center.

“We’re more of a family event than the other show, so it’s always a concern,” Pageau noted. “But you don’t go to Vegas and not expect to see something inappropriate. In terms of bumping into porn stars, there’s plenty of opportunity to do that already in Las Vegas. ”

He said a larger worry for PMA is that the SHOT Show, the world’s largest hunting, shooting, and outdoor trade show, will be coming to the Sands the week after PMA so there may be some disruption as that event moves in.
